Tiger poll boycott was to prove a point in the Tamil struggle - Balakumaran

The LTTE says the decision taken by the Northern Tamils to boycott the just concluded presidential polls was not to ensure a victory for the UPFA or a loss for the UNP but instead to prove a point in the Tamil struggle.
K.V. Balakumaran, a senior LTTE political leader speaking over the Voice of Tiger radio over the weekend said last week`s polls would go down in history as the turning point in the ethnic conflict.
?The outcome of the polls cannot be seen as a victory or a loss for any political party. Instead it sends out a clear message on the stand of the Tamil people. The Tamils have spoken on their rights by boycotting the polls without any pressure from anyone,? Mr. Balakumaran was quoted by a pro LTTE Tamil website as telling Tiger radio.
Balakumaran, who is residing overseas, said the world has been stunned by the stand taken by the Tamils in the North as it came unexpectedly and did not favour even the UNP as was anticipated by the Southern political parties.
?We were forced to consider not to support even Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe for various reasons. The Tamils did not feel duty bound to support anyone. Ultimately we decided to think of our needs and not the needs of the South,? he said.
The senior LTTE leader said the days ahead would be important as the attention of the world would now be focused on the political parties in the South and the direction the country would take by their decisions.
Meanwhile the LTTE begins its heroes day celebration week from today and will culminate with the annual heroes day speech by the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on Sunday.
The much anticipated speech of the LTTE leader is expected to deliver the stand of the rebels with regard to the future of the peace process under the new government of President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Only point is the WAR.
It says some country, probably NORway, has supported LTTE to buy chemical weapons specially to kill Karuna caders.
LTTE really needs war.
That is why one reason they did not care whether Ranil win or not. Edited By - AnuD - 20 Nov 2005 21:01:29 GMT |

Mahinda Rajapaksha the LTTE President. Not only that, Mahinda Rajapaksha the HORA CHANDA President...
Thousands stripped of voting rights
By N.Dilshath Banu
Thousands of people in various parts of the country, but especially Colombo, were denied their voting rights at Thursday?s presidential election when they found their names had been left out of the voters? list though their names had been sent to the gramasevakas in time, a polls monitoring group said.
Voters in Gamapaha, Galle, Puttalam, Colombo, Batticaloa, Kandy and other areas said they had gone to the polling booths assuming their names were on the list but were turned back.
Election analysts said that it was also a mystery as to how the number of registered voters had dropped in many of the polling divisions in the Colombo district. Compared to the 2003 electoral register which was used in the last parliamentary elections, the 2004 register used in Thursday?s presidential election shows that the Colombo Central polling division had lost 8,847 votes ? the biggest drop. Also recording drops in voter population were Borella, Colombo North, Colombo East, Colombo West, Dehiwela, Kotte, Ratmalana and Moratuwa polling divisions.
All the other polling divisions in the country had recorded a natural increase. For instance Kaduwela recorded an increase of 4,791 and Homagama 6,732.
Kingsley Rodrigo, head of the People?s Action for Free and Fair Elections, one of the main polls monitoring groups, said that by yesterday some 5,000 people in the Colombo district alone had complained to the monitors that they were stripped of their voting rights.
Disappointed residents said they had registered in time but had not received their poll cards. They went to the polling booth on Thursday with their national identity card, but they were denied the right to exercise their franchise.
Underlying the magnitude of this crisis, a woman voter said she was living at Union Place at Kompannaveediya since 1959 and this was the first time her name was arbitrarily struck off the list.
For Mrs A. Ratnayake from Nugegoda, the situation was worse. She said she and her daughter did receive the poll cards but when they went to the booth, they were told they could not vote as their names were not on the list.
Some of these voters who were stripped of their rights have sent a petition to the Commissioner of Elections.
The PAFFREL chief said that in future, voters should get a receipt from the gramasevaka when handing over their registration forms.
He said the PAFFREL also would pursue the matter with election officials.
In response, polls chief Dayananda Dissanayake said the people should check with the District Secretariat whether their names were on the voters? list which was displayed every December.
However, he did not comment on why people who received polling cards found that their names were not on the list. |

Of course, the enforced boycott by the north was to prove a point. And that point was well proven. And I would add, congratulations to those who were shrewd enough to think of the political ramifications of such a boycott.
Had the north-east not boycott the election, then Ranil would have obviously won the election. In essence, the north-east voter would have 'made up' for the stupidity of the Sinhala electorate.
In a way, I am glad that the north did not 'make up' for the south, because I think it is high time the people wisened up and start making some intelligent decisions without always acting like frogs in the well.
In the south, 50.xx people voted for Rajapakse, while only 48.xx percent was intelligent enough to realize the ground reality.
The voters will always get what they deserve. The south will get what they deserve, and the north too.

You are butt end of fat jokes pal. You showed to the world that you are trash, illiterate and unable to cast votes the way you wanted.
Here's some news, the world media responded by chastising you for disenfranchising Tamils from exercising their civic rights - the right to vote! All you had to do was to name a Tamil candidate and get all Tamil votes to prove your point. You are a bunch of morons.
The reality was that Tamils may have voted for Mahinda to simple get rid of you!
Come on be honest, admit now, you are finished. Just going through the final motion!

| Very good decision by the LTTE, and kept it to the last minute was even better. If Ranil was elected with the Tamil votes things would have been much worse than at present |

Mr.Balakumaran desperately trying to doge the facts. It is widely known that LTTE warn people not to vote, bombs were thrown at poling stations. Tamil people did not send any messages, but the LTTE did. By disrupting and blocking people enjoying their franchise, they told the whole world, that they are in control over Tamils in the North.LTTE cannot continue their goals by engaged in peace talks, as long as there are resistance from the south for their demands, they keep demanding and the southerners will deny them, and LTTE will continue with their activities. People are not foolish.
