Of course the JVP will not sit with the government.
That's because the JVP is a party that thrives in rhetoric, which can be carried out easily when in opposition.
They know the hard decisions Rajapakse has to make, and that the majority of those decisions (if made with some sort of sense), will run contrary to Mahinda Chinthana.
The JVP wants to maintain enough distance between the government and themselves so that they could at any time launch agitations against whatever the issues that come up. This is the bread & butter of JVP.
The JVP does not have the balls to actually govern, because then they will be held responsible for their action/inaction, for not being able to do what they so loudly claim on platforms...

A primary school teacher explains to her class that she is a JVP.
-
-
-
-She asks her students to raise their hands if they were JVP too. Not
-really knowing what a JVP was but wanting to be like their teacher,
-their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks.
-
-
-
-There is, however, one exception. A small girl has not gone along with
-the crowd.
-
-
-
-The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.
-
-
-
-'Because I'm not a JVP.'
-
-
-
-Then, asks the teacher, what are you? ' I'm a proud UNP.', boasts the
-little girl.
-
-
-
-The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red.. She asks
-the girl why she is an UNP.
-
-
-
-'Well, My Thathi and Ammi are UNPers, and So I am UNP too.'
-
-
-
-The teacher is now angry. 'That's no reason,' she says loudly. 'What if
-your Ammi was a moron, and your Thathi was a moron. What would you be
-then?'
-
-
-
-A pause, and a smile. 'Then,' says the little girl, 'I'd be a JVP.'

It's very difficult to predict how the Sinhalese think if they think at all; it's easier to predict Praba, so I may be dead wrong. If you analyse the situation with brutal objectivity I don't think the JVP will join the government; at least if I were the JVP I wouldn't.
The reasons are,
How long do you think Mahinda's honeymoon with voters going to last? It may be over already.
It is economically impossible to give all the promises in the Chinthanaya; the JVP knows this and doesn't want to face the repercussions.
Their ineptitude and the inability to deliver was shown the last time they were in control of a few ministries.
They are a perpetual party of criticizers not can-doers, that's what they are good at and that's why some people support them. A perennial nagging wife - if you may.
If CBK had dissolved the parliament and had an election before the presidential election they would have lost heavily because of their failure to deliver when in government.
Another astute observation by forum contributor John54, which I had overlooked, in Mahinda the JVP had the ideal candidate with the right 'common man' credentials. If it was any other candidate (Mangala, Siripala et al) JVP wouldn't have made a tuppence of a difference. Of course the JVP will milk it for all it's worth now. With or without JVP, with or without UNP, with or without LTTE, if Mahinda does not do the job he is assigned for we will throw him in the gutter as we did with the others. This is not the end, this is the beginning for him. We have clearly known the result had Ranil won the election. He is the stable low entropy leader, who was dancing to tone of 'others'. We all know that 'Janapathi Madura' is full of infectious deceases. We urge Mahinda not to get contracted, stay healthy and take up the challenges. If he fails, we will definitely discard him and find an alternative. We are not 'Nayaka' worshipers like some UNPers.
Ranil had friends who betrayed him. Mahinda had a force only that he hanged on to get an executive job. If he doesn't do the job properly, he will be dismissed 'Unfairly'. |

| I, like many others, have frequently made the mistake of referring to the JVP as communists. They are not. They are something far more insidious......National Socialists. If you contrast the economic and political situation now in Sri Lanka to Germany in the days of the Weimar Republic, you will get a pretty good idea where their pitch to the populus is coming from. |

I feel sorry for some of the people here after reading their comments, especially about JVP. Thier failiure to understand 'how majority think' resulted in a Major Election Lost, which if not for this thinking would have been an entirely diffrent story. But they still cannot understand why things happened in that way, not in the way they wanted them to happen. The real tragedy is, they still try to understand the world around them in the same way they did before the election, thus reducing the major blow they had in the election to few minor reasons (like Hora Chanda etc).
They dream about a secret pact between LTTE and Mahinda. They expect JVP leaders to get sold for for few ministerials posts. They also fantasize about people turning against Mahinda in case Mahinda failed to meet the promises, and thus assuming people simply voted for him for those consessions he promised. I feel sorry for these fellow members.
I am neither saying JVP is composed of 'Bodhi Sathwas' nor JVP is not going to accept any Ministerial Portfolios. They in deed COULD accept the ministerial posts, but they are not going to accept those for the reasons most of you think (except VISHNU). And failure to understand these would most certainly result in nothing, but more losses in future elections.

You people are arguing wrong.
One other possibility
If New President absorbs many UNPers as possible, he has consent of other major parties for CFA talks.
If JVP sits in the opposition, one JVPer will be the opposition leader who will be supportive of the President.
That will be a promotion for JVP too.
If Two major parties make one group that is good for Sri Lanka too. Edited By - AnuD - 21 Nov 2005 02:49:52 GMT |

Well Said Mucha,
You are the only one who had a clear vision on this matter,
All the LTTE and UNP supporters have colored glasses.
JVP will stick into their words, Of course they have an agenda. They will be the opposition if they can't be the government. (Duh)...
However, never expect JVP to betray the people's hopes for a bunch of ministries or bag of money.
Later they may discuss with Mahinda and put forward their proposals to build the country, upon that they might accept ministries.
Please guys, Don't just jump into conclusions and hoot about everything... Wait and see what happens, if something is wrong, you can criticize even more.
Have Fun,.... |

JVP got their choice as the president. Now what the hell are they talking about??? Accept some important ministerial portfolios and do some productive work.
Even before the President offer some responsibility, these buggers are trying to slip away.

If Mr.Mahinda and the new parlement want to save the soverignty of Sri Lanka with the federal system in the northeast and northwest, and get foreign aides to rebuild this Island specially the tsunami affected or devastated areas in the northeast and in south ,first of all themajor political party UNP should be included or invited to forma national government with one aim to solve this ethnic problem. But if Mr.Mahinda goes ahead with JVP on all projects against Tamils notably LTTE ) he will understand the consequences due to his foolish friendship with JVP and JHU.
Indian Government will not allow this small people like Mr.Mahinda and JVP gangs to have only unitary state in Sri Lanka without having federal system in the northeast and northwest.
This is not the warning but an advice that we c an deliver through this internet message that enough is enough. We should not repeat the same mistakes.
Sharing the tsunami aides of donors countries with Tamils for the northeast region devastated by tsunami is very very important and we tamils all over the world and the international communities shall not allow these little people to dictate the international communities. |
