Ranil, the most unfortunate political leader in Lankan history - SB
Monday, 21 November 2005 - 2:48 AM SL Time

Prisoner S.B. Dissanayake has blasted UNP party organizers for an inefficient campaign in this week`s presidential election.

`This campaign was disorganized from the beginning. I have told them to redesign the campaign but they were in a fantasy,` an angry SB told media reporters

He added that Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe is the most unfortunate political leader in Sri Lankan history but gave a tough fight to his rival candidate at the November 17th election.

`I think Ranil should be continued as the leader of the UNP,` he added.

According to Budddhist history,Lord Buddha has placed Sri Lanka to protect under Deva VISHNU.Many Sri lankans believe that on many occations when Sri lanka faced threats, was saved by some means so that Buddhism is saved from the vultures.Living examples are, the coup data in 1962 by the Pro Cxxxxxxc Army/Police Chiefs was averted at the eleeventh hour saving the many lives of the calibre Sirimao Bandaranayake.Another is when Ranil was about to hand over a part of Sri Lanka on a gold platter to the ruthless killers,President CBK prevented it by dissolving UNF Government. This is another occasion.

So Mr SB,don't blame any one else.People like yourself, Ravi K,GL,MW and many are responsible for mismanagement of the Governace!

SB is of course quite correct in his assessment of the campaign. I attended a UNP rally, only to hear the speaker coming out with some fantasial nonsense about a vision of Sri Lanka as the new Singapore. There was no incision, no definition and no sense that this was a party opposed to the policies of Mahinda. I later attended a rally in support of the President. There was fire and there was power. At this meeting I heard that Ranil was the devil, Ranil would bring shame and misery to all Sri Lankans, Ranil was a failure. I cannot say that I was altogether surprised by the election outcome. The lack-lustre political performers at the UNP rally were pathetic.

I also agree, Sri Lanka was saved by some unknown power from the impending disaster. Buddhism will get some boost.
Those foreign morons should understand Buddhism is part of our Sinhala Culture until you people converted us to Christianity.

Ranil, with his political experience, he could not see what was infront of him.

He just believed the mental retards that were standing behind him.

This is a major loss to the Church. If UNP MPs are true - Sri Lankans they should talk openly what went wrong with the party strategy.

If Ranil was intelligent enough to break LTTE, why he was alinning with LTTE. Who influenced him that way. He was trying to impose someone's idea into Sri Lankans.

Ranil was stupid. He needs to admit it, if he needs to grow up.

Sri Lankan Hindus should wake up too. Convert tamil christians back to Hinduism.

Mr.Jay-R..
You say that Ranil was going to give part of Sri Lanka on a platter to the LTTE. Let me ask you this question: If so, why did the LTTE boycott the election then? You clearly seem to know for sure that if Ranil had come to power, he would have given part of the country to the LTTE. Isnt this what the LTTE are fighting for? Then why should they boycott the election so that Ranil didnt come to power? Doesnt the boycott show that the LTTE themselves believed that Ranil would never give part of the country to them?? Think about what you say, before you tell it Mr.Jay-R. Now that it is ever so clear that Ranil would not have given part of the country to the LTTE, didnt we have a better chance at peace with Ranil as the president than Rajapakse with his JVP JHU allies calling for war??

Mr.John 54..
You are just another gullible person that the UPFA targeted. The UNP has always in its political history given visions to the people. Ranil Wickremesinghe is a man of vision! That is why his campaign speeches mention things like making SL the next Singapore. It is people like you, who the UPFA targets! They dont have a vision, all they do is throw dirt at the other party, and continuously say that the UNP is going to sell out the Buddhists and Sri Lanka. This may be effective political strategy, as we have clearly seen that there are lots of gullible people in Sri Lanka. But what our country needs is someone with a vision, not someone who will just throw dirt and win an election. Rajapakse used the people's sense of patriotism against Ranil Wickremesinghe. All the while, he does not have any vision for Sri Lanka. And whats shameful is that 50.29% of Sri Lankans have no understanding of what a political leader with a vision is.

There is only one phenomenon that is holding the balance in the minds of all Sri lankans. That is Fear-psychosis.

Mahinda/JVP/JHU used it to defeat Ranil and the LTTE used it to protect itself. When analysed of the effectiveness on both sides, it is the LTTE who scored a 100% as against
Mahinda's team whom were nearly ditched within a difference of 1.5%.

As long as the JVP tactics of 1989 is released in the form of Fear-psychosis banded with a religious form, this country will be stagnated in any march forwards.

Ranil proved to these Fear mongerers that he is capable of taking the bull by the horn. The only failure in Ranil's campaign was that he saved his trump card of bravado till the last minute.

Ranil failed to challenge the pseudo patriots by timely exposing the acts of Bravery during his tenure. Any man or woman will always like one who is brave than patriotic; because one cannot be brave if he is not patriotic.

Ranil was aware that LTTE would bungle his future and that is the very reason he tried to WIN the Singhala buddhist votes more than ever before. HE DID WIN MORE SINGHALA BUDDHIST VOTES. One example is a block of Singhala Catholic votes in Moratuwa going Mahinda's way. This block of votes were replaced by Buddhist votes for Ranil.

Ranil should continue to be the Leader for the betterment of this country.

Oh yes definitely if SB had been around he would have deployed all his thugs and below the belt tactics to secure a victory for Ranil by hook or by crook!

Reappear,

Ranil can make the Federal system happen like he stopped the blood letting in our country. My wish is that all Sri lankans should live together as a country whilst being able to conduct their daily lives without any harassment in the enjoyment of resources and access to resources with authority within a legislative system.

Federal system is the only platform that can offer those above prcisely including many other issues.

Ranil vouched the happening of this. Irrespective of all these issues my family has been always UNP supporters and I have no hesitation in supporting UNP under any circumstances.

Jay-r & others who believe in mysterious powers,

Guys, the very fact that the Buddha would ask any god to 'look after' Sri Lanka runs contrary to the most fundamental teachings in Buddhism.

In Buddhism, everyone is supposed to be treated equally, without offering personal favors, favoritism, etc. The story that the Buddha asked a god to look after Sri Lanka in that case would be a huge 'personal favor,' and is highly unlikely given that the Buddha did not have any special treatment for even his son, when he was ordained as a monk.

All these mysterious powers that look over and guard us, are totally the opposite of Buddhism. Those are stories that have developed over the years from the very fact that Buddhism was passed on verbally for the most part.

Plus, those stories highlight the longing of humans to believe in a higher existence to save them, which, according to Buddhism is an act of the disillusioned.
