They try anything to get their man to power

Why not make voting mandatory and see what will happened

If they do that UNP will disappear form the face of politics

Mr.Muniraj,
What you must first understand is that it is not a matter of Ranil Wickremesinghe coming to power, but it is a matter of having free and fair elections throughout the country. Whether Ranil Wickremesinghe wins or not if we have a repoll is a different matter - but the fact is that each and every man has a right to vote, and as a responsible state, it must be ensured that such rights of people are not abused. Whoever who becomes president, it must be ensured that democracy will prevail. And in order for democracy to prevail, every man must be allowed to cast his vote, whether it be in the North, East, West, or South! If we say that 650 000 votes in Jaffna are irrelevant to the who becomes president, what if 1 000 000 voters have their rights abused in the next election? And if it was the case that Rajapakse lost in the next election due to 1 000 000 voters in the North being denied their right to vote, I ask you, wouldnt you be calling for a re-poll? A free and fair election?

Manthindaw,
I completely agree with both your above posts.

A probe needs to be done on this matter. There was something certainly not democratic happening.

I am highly doubtful to attribute it to pure coincidence.

A re-poll will make no difference. Why would the LTTE let the Tamils vote at a Re-poll????? THey have got their biggest asset elected. A Raciest government headed by a the BIGGEST Buffello in the south. SO why on earth would the LTTE allow the tamils to vote again????

A Re-poll would make NO DIFFERENCE.

Arithaspice,

Yes a re-poll is in order due to voter intimidation and this is outright denial which is more than intimidation.
Can a probe or even litigation lead to a re-poll? Even if is successful what guarantee that LTTE will not do it again?

As for your doubt of the coincidence of this episode, I am beyond doubt that this is a preplanned deal to derail the Peace Deal and create chaos. I am sure Gamini murder way back too is a conspiracy. It is also clear that LTTE do not want UNP administration at any stage and specially Ranil who has involved international commitment for the Peace Deal
