Mind you the racist party won only by a narrow margin.
there is nothing to celebrate about his win.if it was a landslide then i will put my head down.
any how he is the president at present.
ranil must be so proud of him self that he at least had nearly 49% of the votes.
i can tell now clearly and loudly, mahindas ship will sunk soon.he will not have much room or space to have a comfortable maneuver.
his ship can only be saved by his executive powers if he practice.
if he really wants peace in the island, still its not too late to negotiate with the non negotiable ISGA.
he will be famous than ranil and it will be a solid peace. Edited By - tigeress19 - 20 Nov 2005 10:17:15 GMT |

Anizam,
You got it wrong again. Ranil was not a great communicator. Still he could have done a wonderful job, if he has not 'hired' some PR people to pump up his image and just being natural. Remember JR? JR was not a great communicator in Sinhala too. But ordinary Sri Lankans listened to JR because JR never tried to hide is identity and never wore a disguise like Ranil did. In Ranli's case, he had to wear three different disguises for three presidential elections!!
Even that sing song incidence shows the stupidity of UNP propaganda. Knowing Ranil has NO such talents or affection, why did UNPers made propaganda stuff using Ranil in 'paduru parties'?? Why did UNPers had sing song sessions with Ranil?? JR never exposed his private life to people. I am sure he never let ordinary Sri Lankans know about his sing song abilities.
Anizam, why do you go back to square one again? Few months ago you told us that the country is in grave danger and so on. Then you told us how Ranil is going to WIN. You hinted about great surprises UNP has up their sleeve. NOTHING materialized. Now you start crying wolf again!!
Please remember one thing my friend. No one is 'indispensable'. If one person is not there, the other person will do the job.
Whatever the future problems we have, we shall face them and solve them. Don't worry about that. We do not need US expertise.

I agree with pera, ranil did not communicate with the sinhala mass the way they expect,ie with some frills and bows.
i still hope ranil stays as the leader of unp.
in future the race will be between jvp and unp.
so you can figure out who will be the winner is. |

Thank you OOPSE for responding. I refuse to be suppressed by you so you can have the last word.
There are others in the forum who identify with various parts of our work and they will benefit from my response.
I appreciate that you shared your home with Tamil families. Like you there are many Tamils who would not be able to oppose a Sinhalese known to them on individual or even family basis. Majority Tigers would because they do not know many Sinhalese on individual basis. It is wrong of us to take the middle line by referring to individuals on the others side. Likewise it is also wrong to stretch our individual animosities to the whole of the other group - by generalising. Until we have taken the issue up to the top most level, we must limit our discussions to the level we have taken it up to. If we seek to participate at the National level, it must be through a national level leader who represents our views. That is the right protocol based on Dharma. That helps us not damage other people's work.- especially work about which you know very little.
You say 'You can consider me a Racist but I was not part of the Gang that attacked Tamil's when Ranil was in Power.'
Tamils were attacked under many governments. YOU may want to distinguish between Ranil and CBK but to most Tamils it is between Sinhalese and Tamils. The more we stay away from each other the more we will see your type of problems as being 'internal'. This has now been confirmed further by the absence of Tamil votes in the Presidential elections. Whether Tamils did it out of fear or as a protest, you would not know except when you connect to Tamils who feel for fellow Tamils.
Your preoccupation with Mahinda v Ranil indicates strongly that you are not interested in Tamils as a group but rather with specific individuals. If those individuals have invested in Tamils as a group - meaning values that all Tamils can relate to, then your investment in those individuals would be COMMON investment in Tamils as a group. Otherwise you are stretching your truth to cover everyone. That is confirmed by you stretching Mahinda's credentials with his electorate to the whole Nation.
If Tamils are minorities in body - which is needed during voting time for someone to get the position - Rural Sinhalese are minority power in Public Administration and Business. Instead of helping Sinhalese at voting time, if you help them in everyday life, you will help the disenfranchised within your own community. I feel strongly that you think Sinhalese and try to stretch it to the National level by virtue of your majority voting power. Likewise Mahinda and the JVP - and yes, the Tigers.
But Ranil tends to THINK national and hence he is popular with those who have invested at the National and International level.
You say 'I don't like the way you write. You may be on some higher plane which I don't enjoy being in.'
The first statement is a statement of fact. You are entitled to it as an outsider. Since I work with highest levels in government through Public Administration, I would conclude that you are in a lower position than I in Public Administration. This is the reason why you do not like to engage with me.
The second statement makes a statement about me, based on the same issue. In that matter, we need an independent judge to rule whether I am higher or lower. You seemed inclined to think that I may be on a higher plane. You are not ready to do the work to know whether I am or not - through the substance available to you. THIS OOPSE IS THE SINHALESE-TAMIL PROBLEM. You can afford not to do the Objective work, because you rely heavily on subjective powers including during voting time. That the shortcut which even the Tigers take.Unless such a system is based on Truth, the system will fail us. If that Truth is expressed through a langauge not understood by outsiders - then the nation is downgraded in the material world - especially at the International level. People may be happy but unless they pass on their Truth to the next generation, such happiness would last only during their lifetime. It is like a University doing much Research and very little teaching.
You are entitled to your opinion about me as an individual. But unless you consider yourself equal to me you do not have the authority express such an opinion in this public forum. If you were doing so from a higher position - then you must take up the position of a Sri Lankan and not that of a Sinhalese. Otherwise you would try to bully me down to your level.
You say 'I enjoyed Reading Lakshman Kiadirgamar's speeches and listening to him. I really don't care what his race is. I think he should have been President.'
This therefore confirms that Kadir became a Sinhalese and was not Sri Lankan. You may not care what his race is. Have you done the work to know WHY you like his work but not mine? If you ask yourself you would know that it is because you have both invested at the same level - the level of Sinhalese and not at the National level - the same way some Tamils are investing at the level of the Tigers and not at the national level.
Left to you, you would promote yourself as President without asking yourself how well such a person would serve through that position. Those who come into position by currying favour - will last only as long as those person/s are in power. Only someone who comes into the position on merit basis - would last outside / beyond the subjects around that position. Kadirgamar was not independent to do this. If indeed he had occupied that position, he would have been the symbol of the guilt felt by the Sinhalese and not much more. That would be like an Aboriginal leader who has followed the British Australians coming into power. In Indian Tamil we have the name 'ETTAPPAN' for such people. Ettappan, like Judas betrayed the Tamil King Kattabomman who challenged the British, to the British.
I believe that Kadir did not do this actively. But the Tigers who, like you, conclude at the lower physical level, would have concluded that he was an Ettappan without mentioning that he was a passive Ettappan.
You say 'The ONLY reason I think you are MAD is because you think I am a Racist. Nothing More.'
I was actually sent to prison and listed as MAD, here in Australia by an Aboriginal magistrate like Kadirgamar.
It is not bad to be a racist if you are open about it and limit your opinions to your space - be that the Sinhalese space or the space of your own trade / business. It's when it encroaches into my space that I have the authority to attack you back on the basis that is most convenient to me. I usually pick the one that would produce most benefit at the International level. It's my prerogative to choose the 'form' that I prefer when you invade my space unlawfully. There are protocols that you need to follow in these voluntary forums. One of them is not to express a subjective opinion based on the little you know about me - in this instance my style of writing. The fact that you and I have engaged in further discussion is proof that you were wrong. Others who picked up parts of my work and responded respectfully are automatically declaring you wrong. It's wrong to stretch your dislike of a part of me to the whole. If the Tamils known to you were not good people, you are likely to conclude that all Tamils are bad.
If you seek to be subjective, do the work to get to know the person 'without expressing an opinion' until you have done all you can to know the person as a whole. Until then if you want to express an opinion it has to be Objective and transparent.
