Even though the PM`s office has declared victory for Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse in the Presidential Election held yesterday, counting is still going on in many centers. The office of the commissioner of elections continues to release official results and here is a summery of where the candidates stand as at 9.15 a.m. (SL Time) on the 18th of November 2005.
Prime Minister and UPFA presidential candidate Mahinda Rajapakse has got a total of 4,137,525 (50.12%) votes so far while his main opponent UNP candidate Ranil Wickramasinghe has a total of 4,012,736 (48.60%) votes.
At this point the PM Leading by 124,789 votes.
The results for the other candidates are as follows:
Sirithunga Jayasooriya: 30,580 (0.37%)
Achala Asoka Suraweera: 26,825 (0.32%)
Victor Hettigoda: 12,301 (0.50%)
Chamal Jayaneththi: 7,865 (0.10%)
Aruna De Soyza: 6,581 (0.08%)

RANIL IS A GENTLEMAN!!!
CONCEDED DEFEAT WITHOUT ANY HESITATION AND THAT SHOWS HIS GENUINE INTENTIONS TO SERVE THE NATION.
RANIL PROVED HIS WORTH BY CHALLENGING A THREE PRONGED FORCE OF PSEUDO PATRIOTS.
IF TODAY'S WIN FOR A PATRIOTIC CLAIM HAD BEEN ADOPTED BY THE PUBLIC, MAHINDA SHOULD HAVE WON MORE THAN 75% OF THE VOTES.
MAHINDA FAILED TO GET A RESOUNDING APPROVAL FOR HIS CLAIM.
THUS HE LACKS THE CONFIDENCE OF THE ENTIRE NATION. THEREFORE SINGHALESE CANNOT BE TOO PROUD ABOUT THIS ACHIEVEMENT.
RANIL MANAGED TO EARN THE APPROVAL AT 49%(48.6)AND THIS SHOWS THAT THE COUNTRY IS NOT ENTIRELY IN FAVOUR OF PSEUDO PATRIOTIC MANOUVERES.
FOR ME RANIL IS THE WINNER IN THIS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
IF NOT FOR THE ABSTENTION OF TAMIL VOTERS( VOTER BANK 650,000) MAHINDA WOULD NOT CUT HIS BIRTHDAY CAKE TODAY.
THIS IS LIKE A FRIENDLY GESTURE BY THE TAMILS,ENGINEERED BY LTTE WITH ULTERIOR MOTIVES.
I WISH MR. RAJAPAKSE A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND WISDOM TO ADMINISTER, MANAGE AND LEAD THIS NATION TO PEACE, HARMONY AND PROSPERITY.
BEING A TAMIL CATHOLIC, MAHINDA CANNOT FAIL.
HE WILL BE THE BEST OF BUDDIES WITH THE SO CALLED VANNI BUTCHER SAVIOUR OF THE TAMIL, AVATAR SUN GOD VELUPPILLAI PRABHAKARAN.
Like President Abraham Lincoln, Mahinda may destroy his enemies by making them his friends. Mahinda has those traits and he will use that with a Big hug to Prabha.

Whoever comes to the power let us all wish him without any backward minds and for the sake of peac e in sri lanka, for the sake of one soverignty of sri lanka with federal systems, with equal rights of every citizen.
The party who may not get elected also should wortk together with the winning party to rebuild this Island and this is my wish.
