Hindu Affairs Minister Douglas Devananda`s chief body guard, Velva Podiyan Rasanayagam (35), was killed by the LTTE pistol gang in Wellawatte Sunday.
Rasanayagam was on his way to the Minister`s office, when the three wheeler he was travelling in, at around 7.15 pm, was blocked, at Maya Place off Swarna Road in Wellawatte, by his killers.
The Tiger cadres had shot Rasanayagam and the three wheeler driver, witnesses told police.
Rasanayagam succumbed to his injuries before admission to hospital. The three wheeler driver Chaminda Kumara, who was admitted to Colombo National Hospital,
was in a serious condition, police sources said
Rasanayagam, whose native place is Trincomalee, was the OIC of a civil clad security unit providing security to the Minister who had escaped LTTE attempts on his life umpteen times. He was a father of two children and visited his home town only once in two weeks. Accordingly, last Friday Rasanayagam took his off and was due to report to his base last evening, Wellawatte OIC Nihal Mendis said.
The injured three wheeler driver Kumara is from Tangalle and is attached to Wellawatte Park Road three wheeler drivers community, he said.
Following the killing, security had been strengthened in and around Colombo and some Police units were deployed to trace the killers.

Now that we have named LTTE as the killers without any evidence as usual, we can close another unsolved mystery.
I am by no means a supporter of LTTE but it sickens me the amount of time we blame LTTE without evidence and never conduct meaningful investigations to bring the perpertrators to justice. |

Bose,
You are ignorant. Haven't you heard about this terrible infection 'Kotiphobia' that has infected the majority race and spreading like wild fire. Read elsewhere about this infection.
According to researchers they think it is a total parasite that was identifed in 1971 that has multiplied over the years to such dimension. No cure but can be controlled. It has remission and relapse depending on the host response. |

Prabaharan stop iluminating oponants long time ago , he has said that we came long way and now we are a structure. court and let court decide what to do him. there are many murders are commited by srilankan government officials and blamed on LTTE.
Law and order is going out of hand. if someone killed in somewhere colombo police just put the blame on LTTE and close the cases. there is no reson for LTTE to kill his body guard. and even if LTTE killed they would only kill douglas. noon else. and i doubt LTTE would even think to kill him.
LTTE have open arm policy now to all other groups, lets forget and forgive , its the time to work to gether for the benifit of our people. |
