Desertman,
This guy S.S. Wijertane is an UN pensioner. He was appointed to the Constitution Council or something, the Supreme Body in SL, by the JVP as their representative when the JVP was in the opposition.
How can he be an independent moderator for the debate between the PM and the Leader of the Opposition ?? Edited By - Cobbler - 11 Nov 2005 17:35:10 GMT |

Mahinda will never ever come to the debate with Ranil. He just buys time through Dallas Alahapperuma.
Mahinda is a brainless, spineless and visionless joker.
He is the real po**aya, but his supporters claim Ranil is a po**aya.
What a joke.
Have you listened to Mahinda's speeches? No facts, No content, No logic. No flow. Just bluff.
The only intelligent thing this fellow has done in the recent past was to avoid a debate with Ranil. |

Wahatever sumudu...
i'm sure you have never heard ranil speaking... words wont even come out of mouth and nobody knows what he's talking about... in comparison, mahinda's speaches are far better..
people who are losing are the people who wants debates... mahinda is not scared to debate with stupid ranil...
ranil even wants breaks during the debate... what kind of debate is that... someone wants 6 breaks during the debate so that he can get facts from people... this alone shows the knowledge of ranil...
no matter what, mahinda will win the election! and become president who unites the country and develop the country!!
way to go, MAHINDA!! |

I hope it will be a friendly debate, not to show each other's superiority but to put forward their policies clearly.
This is not an opportunity to throw mud at each other, both candidates can say 'this is my vision and this is how I hope to achieve it.'
Whether it is in Sinhala or English Ranil is the better debator and Mahinda is the Better orator!
Debating or talking better than the other does not indicate an ability to rule better, but it certainly is an asset! |

According to the special European TV programme of WELIGAMA and GALLE areas after one year of tsunami, I would like to ask these two leaders, will this F.....g channel debate bring anything to those poor people to get their new houses as promised?
It is really regrettable to watch this TV programme on sri Lanka and it is shame too to learn that the sri lankan politicians are still not worried about these tsunami affected people but only in their personal interests. |

The intention of this Debate should be to educate the Public.
We do not want to see both Candidates shouting or yelling at the height of their throat to entertain their supporters.
We should be able to comprehend a clear message from both LIFE SAVERS of the Nation as they claim.
If this debate is going to reflect the ROWDISM from the Parliament that we know, they might as well cancel it right now.
There can be No Winner or a Loser of the Candidates.
The Winners should be the Public and Nobody else.
After the Debate the masses should be able to say what they understood from the Debate. If nobody understood anything as a clear message, it means that these two guys are not worth at all in contesting for this coveted position.
IF YOU CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR OWN PEOPLE IN A WAY THAT THEY CAN UNDERSTAND YOU, THEN YOU ARE NOT FIT TO BE A LEADER WHETHER IT IS RANIL OR MAHINDA.
In the style of Sunil Perera, they both should be sent to Mr.Prabhakaran for tuition.
Prabhakaran is a great communicator as stark as his success.

Friends,
I still do not believe that the debate will ever take place. Ranil invited him for debate long time ago. Mahinda mama initially rejected the invitation and waited till one week before the election to accept it, knowing that there is no time to arrange the debate. Perhaps he was taking some tuition in Economics and trying to understand the ethnic problem, which he has no clue.
Debate is not about, how effectively one could speak only, its about how the prospective President understand the issues facing the presidency and what solution he can implement-not wish. Mahinda is back-boneless when CBK is around. Without Wimal he is speechless. How could he be the President and head of the cabinet?
If and when the debate takes place, everyone will come to know the fact that Ranil has a profound knowledge on the critical issues facing the country and a clear vision. Mahinda will expose his own weaknesses.
That will be final nail on the offin with Mahinda's political future well and truly inside.

Saintclair,
I agree with you. Tsunami matters need to be given priority, in addition to the Tamil issue. They both affect all Sri Lankans. I believe that Tsunami will lead the way to solving Tamil problems through NGO managed projects based on the Objective system that every Sri Lankan could use independently. May be we should write to the address given, to include OUR agenda for the debate.

Gaja,
It is true that the Tsunami impact should be a major issue on the debate. As far as Ranil is concerned, more than the debate, it will be his first priority as soon as he comes to power.
But don't always think of your Tamil brotheren only. Thousands of Sinhalese and Muslimas are also affected. I do not know what the LTTE is doing in Mullativu, but 'sanadanya' has only laid foundation stones and opened up bank accounts. Now they are talking about savings account for the children. The money will be with the Govt. banks, just as a book transfer.
Issues relating to all Tsunami affected people should be prioritised.
You can write to all the addresses; but the debate is a dream. Mahinda will try to avoid it as far as possile.
We don't beleive that he is a leader to be our President and made many strategic errors in his camapign, but I don't think he is such a 'modaya' to go for a public/live debate with Ranil.
Thank you Edited By - Christy - 12 Nov 2005 03:03:29 GMT |
