Capslock, you are portraying Bhuddhism at the extremes. When the Tsunami hit from which countries did SL receive aid most? Predominantly Christian countries isn't it? Also could you kindly explain forceful conversion of relegion? According to you how could one be compelled to change ones relegion by force? Put a pistol to ones head? Be realistic. There can never be forceful changing of ones relegion. Religion is ones belief. Do not forget Buddhism is not a relegion. It's a philosophy. Buddhism has no Gods for it to be a religion. The Gods the Buddhists worship are Hindu Gods isn't it?

LuLa,
Your god concept of Buddhism is not Therawada. I do not know of any Internet resources about any Therawada Buddhism. You could try www.religioustolerence.org and go to page on Buddhism. It is very brief but gives a better picture than Mahayana stuff.

Well, I have to admit what you say about me and Medusa may be true. We are making fun of same guys. No harm in it. However we are not brothers of arms or sworn enemies. Just ordinary Sri Lankans who do not want to give a part of Sri Lanka to LTTE sun goat. Thats all.

LuLa, survival of the fittest theory is dead and gone long time ago!! Now it is Survival of the MOST ADAPTED'!

Cheers

I think WARUNA has given you the answer you deserve. Yes, all the religions could be belief systems (with certain excemptions) as you say, but in the past no westerners took this in that way. They thought what they believe is the truth and tried to force it down the throats of others.

Mister, 'religious harmony' or 'co-existence' is not about finding similarities among different religions, but about accepting the diversity and respecting others. Simply, your way of finding differences could definetely make others angry. For example, I am a Buddhist and I see Anithya, Dukka Anathma model as the best MODEL that can explain this world. As such, I do not like anyone to compare that to any other thing which I see as unlogical. But, even without seeing any similarities, I still can live peacefully with Christians because I know they see things differently.

So called religious harmony preserved in the east for centuries not because Buddhists found similarities between Buddhism and Hinduism or vise versa, but due to the fact that Buddhists understood the model, through which Hindus look at the world, is different.

When Portuguese started preaching Christianity, people went to the Emperor of Kotte to complain about that. It is said, Emperor of Kotte advised those citizens not to worry about that and have said to have told that If what they are preaching is good, it will sustain in the island.. if not, people will not follow it. This is the religious harmony those Kings practised but nothing else, though he made a grave mistake by assuming Christianity to be same as Hinduism, because this poor judgement later resulted in the deaths of Thousands of Buddhists and destruction of Hundreds of Buddhist Temples and Hindu Kovils. For example, Portuguese completely destroyed the Munneshwaram Temple and handed it over to Jesuits. It is the religious Harmony that prevailed between Buddhists and Hindus in the country made the Sinhala Buddhist Sinhala King to reconstruct the Munneshwaram Temple later.

PS: You may not want to further discuss about the popular Christian example about 'Preaching Eskimos not to eat meat'. But by any chance, if you want further clarification, I can always explain to you (according to Buddhism) why they should not get angry about that.

Ranil,

Give everything what was earned by Lakshman to Wanni butchers. Then, you can establish brief peace in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankans, do not worry, be happy

Ranil is going to work magic in two years! Mahinda is also going to work magic by what is found in his manifesto. Finally the people in SL are going to see 'Tharu' and thereafter 'Elowa Pol' by the end of all this magic.

After reading these things about chritianity buddhism, i think you people are so free in life you you can spend so much time answering these things, but fact remains that none of you are actually practicing the religions as they have been asked, the anger, hatered, uneasiness in the tone says it all, why dont you all sit down and contemplate on whether the actual day to day responsibilities have been attended with your attention. Because this form of argument is not going to change anyone except 'yourself'
