Christy,
Thanks for the reply.
Let me ask another question.
You tell us Old testement is not Christianity. Then why does Chirstians bother about the Ten comandments, which were brought to this world by the GOD (before the Jesus)! I thought the ten comandments are the pillers of Christianity. Sorry I'm wrong.
There is a god in the old testament. Is he the father of Jesus? If not which god Jesus is referring as his divine father?
I know, as sensible people, what we have to do is take what is good in any religion. However sometimes that argument does not fit in finding the truth. Because bible has both God and evil (like god wiping off his own creation from Sodom and Gomorrah).
The bible says that people have to be baptized to gain the salvation. As I understand, even a murder could be gone to heaven if he,
a. Believes in true god (who is this god, that is my question)
b. is baptized.
c. Confess
Those who were not baptized won't achieve salvation.
Moreover, even you do best things until your death, if you don't believe in a True god, (atheists, Buddhists like us) will not achieve salvation, isn't it??
Hope you will answer my queries.

Lula,
Thank you very much for the response.
I am sorry to disappoint you. Your understanding in Buddhism is poor.
Buddha acknowledged the presence of gods!
But what he told us was that gods are basically below the human beings! Buddha never taught anyone above the humans. Humans are at the pinnacle. All the gods, demons and spirits are below human. Thats why Buddhists are atheists. We do not believe in a supreme god for salvation, we believe in OURSELVES!
As Dan Brown puts, old man with a white beard is Zeus, the god of gods in ancient Greek myths. The Romanization of Christianity made their god look like Zeus.
It seems you do not understand what psychiatric disorders are. However bible is discriminating homointimacyuals with a vengeance. We see that in Sodom and Gomorrah. Jesus may not discriminating homointimacyuals. Thats why one homointimacyual bishop openly claimed that Jesus himself would have been a homointimacyual (with is 12 merry men, or as Da Vinci code tells us 11 merry men and a one beautiful woman).

Pera,
I dont know if you are taking Christy for a ride.
What I want to tell you is that there is no basis for an argument on any religion.Religion is a belief.if you believe it you follow it.
And if you are comparing Buddhism with Catholicsm it shows how immature you are.Because Buddhism is not a Religion, its a way of live.(Dharshanaya).
And in both of these(as so with many more)they preach and teach to live in 'Love and Peace' with one another.
Simple as that.
But if you want to learn about the Holy Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ I can also help you out.
But not under this topic. |

Weliya,
Thank you and welcome to Sri Lanka.
By the way, I am no baby for Pera to take me for a ride. Some time you get tired of listening.
One Christy can take a horse to water, but Christy, Lula and 48 others cannot make it drink.

LULA:
I cannot agree with your gross comparison between Nirvana and the Almighty God. Seemingly you are possessed with the idea that the aim or the goal of every religion is the same. In case of Christianity and Islam this could be true. But both Buddhism and Hinduism (to a certain extent) are very different from the above two. Statements like the one you said ('Every Religion Teaches the same', 'Every religion wants us to do good', 'God lives in the hearts of Good people' etc) are good for posters OR to promote some artificial religious harmony. But those statements do not hold any water in them.
The philosophical foundation of Buddhism primarily rests on the concepts of Anithya (Impermanence), Dukka (Suffering/ distress) and Anathma (selflessness or soullessness). This three concepts are completely against the teachings of Christianity. Any effort to equate Christianity to Buddhism by comparing the practisces in the outer shells without recognising these core differences is unlogical (as I said, such efforts are good for multi-colour Posters or to use in the multi-religious conferences as an alternative for chewing-gums).
Yes, every religion teaches us to be good. But what they meant by 'good' is different.

Weliya,
I'm not comparing Buddhism with Christianity. It is like comparing Barnes place with wantahamulla. What I try to show is evil hidden in white washed Wanathamulla. Thats all. Most of the Christians in this forum attack Buddhism. When Buddhists try to show that Bible is most destructive book ever written, you Guys come with ten commandments to preach bana.
Christy was using ten commandments as the basic pillars in his previous post and in a subsequent post he says that everything in Christianity is only after Jesus! This is Kabaragoya and thalagoya logic for me.
Christy,
Yes, Portuguese, Dutch, English and now you guys take us to water. Not to let us drink, but to BAPTIZE us. Sorry mate, that will never happen.
I am not talking about Buddhism here. I do not want to compare Buddhism with any religion or a philosophy.
What I want to show is the EVIL in BIBLE and Christianity. As a Pagan I have a right to do that sir.
LuLa,
You are preaching Mahayana sir! You do not know a bean about Therawada Buddhism.

Pera,
Please read my postings again.
I have never said that 10 commandements are the pillars of christianity.
I have never compared Christianity with Buddhism. Even if compared I praise good things of all religions. I have always respected other religions and still maintain that all religions should co-exist.
I never defend any un-ethical conversion or even whatever done by the church.
I only say that I try my best to live as a christian.
Who compares religions and try to establish superiority can be seen by the readers based on the postings.
No harm, its a good debate and God Bless You. |

Christy,
Thank you very much for the response.
I am happy that you are denouncing most of the practices accepted by Catholic and Protestant churches and trying to live as a TRUE Christian.
I just want to know of your ideas about Christianity. Please lets do not argue which religion is best, because I do not drag any other religion in to this argument.
I wish to know what are the principles of Christianity you are adhered with (if not ten commandments).

Pera,
I am quite happy and content with a way I am trying to live as a good ' Christian Sri Lankan'. I have no need for anyone to evaluate the way I live.
If you are all out to win an arguement.
You have won! Bravo!
If you want to establish 'Buddhism' as the best religion in the world,
You have done that too!
Saathu! Saathu!! Saathu!
If you want to prove that Christianity is the worst of them all... you have done that too...
You are forgiven & God Bless You,
