Hi SK63,
UNP is strong in Greater Colombo. People are beginning to realise the collapse within SLFP but the SLFP.
As I said before JVP/JHU alliance is a stigma on SLFP.
In the next 2 weeks we will have a better understanding about the situation in the entire country. People believe that CBK is going to show her 2 cents worth at the 11th hour. This is all a speculation after the CBK-Ranil meeting.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to enjoy the climaxed entertainment as I will be in Canada at that time.

I knew that you were bringing his race and religion up to make a valid point; that it wasn't the usual mindless racial vitriol. So if I conveyed anything else please pardon me.
I understand what you are saying, but to illustrate where I am coming from let me elaborate a little. I don't believe that discrimination is solely a racial or religious issue, to me; it is mainly a human issue, which has many forms of manifestation, racial, religious, black/white, thin/fat, short/tall; basically anything you care to name. People who are born with an advantage whether real or perceived won't relinquish it without a fight. What is happening with the southern Sinhala-Buddhists is that they believe they have an advantage (which I believe is mainly perceived and not real) for the mere fact that they are the majority, which they are terrified of losing, and many leaders lacking in moral fibre keep them in the dark and shamelessly exploit this. For many lazy politicians who have no accomplishments to show, the race card is a very convenient vote-getter. Generation of southern Sinhala-Buddhists are willing to undergo enormous hardships and live in utter poverty just to prevent Tamils getting away and making a better life for themselves, in fear that they will lose this perceived advantage they think they have over the Tamils. V. S. Naipul in one of his books (I forget which) put it succulently, 'Some people have to willingly make themselves half-men in order for others to feel they are full-men.'
To get back to your point, I believe that the Sinhala-Buddhists Zealots perceive no threat from someone who pretends to be one of them or someone like Kadiragama who fights for their cause.
This is what I believe and I know many won't agree with me, but that's their right.

Forget Mahinda. Forget Anura. Listen to what pissu yapa is saying. 'ONLY MAHINDA CAN SERVE MINORITY INTERESTS'. If that was the case then why did all the major minority groups left him? He also says that LTTE approves of Mahinda. Yeah, for different reasons. If Mahinda wins, they can go every where in the world and say, 'Didn't we tell you. These Sinhalese are racists and we were right to fight for a separate state all along'.
Yapa should do well not to talk against facts which are already plain to see. he should instead talk like Mahinda. Say anything and everything which contains nothing. |

MAHINDA IS GOOD WITH EVERYBODY.
HE SIGNS PACTS WITH JVP AND JHU AND THEN GOES TO CWC & SLMC AND TELLS THEM THAT THEY ARE JUST ELECTION GIMMICKS TO GET THE PEOPLE'S VOTES!
HE NEEDS AN EXTRA 150 BILLION RUPEES TO KEEP THE ELECTION PROMISES. THIS HE WILL GET BY INCREASING THE VAT UP TO 40% AND THE 'COMMON MAN' IN RETURN WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. SO THE 'COMMON MAN' ENDS UP LOSING MORE!

Thanks again for the understanding. I am not amenable to any racial exploitation and respect your convictions likewise.
My personal experience is my Maturity. Apart from my multi cultural and multi religious family spanning all religions and races of the country, I personally have interaction and aquaitances with people older than me. This started from my schooldays associating with Old boys of our school who were from different backgrounds.
This experience helped me in my personal development at a very young age. So I see things from different quarters.
Of course I studied in the Tamil medium. Colombo is my birth place, nowhere else. Why I have taken a position to speak for all Tamils ??. The reason is Chauvenist and racialist comments on this forum. This makes us to atleast think of giving an emotional support for LTTE by exposing the injustices meted to the Tamil community at large.
I am enjoying reasonably a good life in Sri lanka with Canada as my base established for my family. You may be aware that I speak singhala too. So no problem.
The other day an Idiot mentioned that I am suffering by marrying a Muslim.
This bloody fool doesn't realise that She is not a Muslim but my Lover.
Do you see the crude mind that is trying to distort the meaning of family relationships. What more do you want from this low minded Academic and likes of him.
So, imagine the state of politics that will be exploited by these mentalities.
To the benefit of all Sri Lankans I like to say that I am enjoying the best of all cultures of our Motherland Sri Lanka. Why can't we make this happen for atleast another 25% of our nation's people dispersed all around the country.
Tamils don't need a Seperate land. They only need a life without obstacles and infringements. A Federal state would provide this independance.
Building on your emphasis, I would say that Singhalese need not be threatened about losing soverignty and territorial integrity by allowing their cousins to have Independant Authority.
My sister in law is Singhala buddhist. My nephews and nieces have an equal share in our family affairs.Why Not??
