Video Segment 8644 - What is he smoking?
Saturday, 23 September 2006 - 9:37 PM SL Time - Some pictures are worth a million words

What is he smoking ?

The movie is called Apoorva Sahodarargal, a Tamil movie. The movie came out in the `80s... Movies of this caliber are par for course for Tamil movies back in the day. Kind of creepy and funny. Suffice to say, Tamil movies these days are nothing like this- more at the level of Bollywood cinema.

First, let me clear something:

The adult star in that clip was RajiniKanth, the super star of Indian Tamil cinema and currently highest paid actor in India, well ahead of all Hindi's 'Khans'. The description of the clip suggests that it was one of the scene from the movie named 'Apoorva Sahodarargal' (In English 'Rare / Strange Brothers'). In fact, Kamal Hassan was in the movie named 'Apoorva Sahodarargal' which was released in 1989. In that movie, Kamal took a double role: First one was 'normal' human size (Raja) and second one was a midget (Appu).

I couldn't recall that from which movie the clip came from, but the second person sat on the bed from right hand side was actually a midget and dancing fellow was also a midget. In old days (80s), Tamils movie producers and directors had employed a bunch of physical comedies in the movies. The dancing midget actor might be well over his 20s when this clip had been shot and he asked 'Rajini' to give his 'Bidi' to smoke after dancing.

The first Apoorva Sahodarargal movie was released in the late forties or early fifties-double acted by M K Radha. It was a super hit at that time. The other movies with the same title are no match for the forties movie.

Some of the old movies are damn good unlike today's masala flop.

When South India made thousands of cheap crap like this more than a half a century, to entertain millions of Tamils with poor taste all over the world including Sri Lankan Tamils, Singhalese were well ahead in making artistic movies .
